Inside Wynnum High

Year 8 and 9

All Year 8 students study a common curriculum, covering the eight key learning areas mentioned earlier.  This curriculum is shown diagrammatically below.  When students enrol at Wynnum High and enter Year 8, they will be placed in a class where they will remain for the year.  Year 8 students will have the same teacher for English and Studies of Society and Environment.  They will also have the same teacher for Mathematics and Science.   Students will study a unit from Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Technology key learning areas for two periods per week. The Arts and Technology key learning areas offer four different contexts and students will study a context per term in both The Arts and Technology.  French is studied one lesson per week.  Please see the diagram below.

At the beginning of each semester, all Year 8 and Year 9 students will receive a unit outline for that subject for the semester.  This unit outline will give an overview of content to be covered and the assessment requirements for students.   All assessment is accompanied by a  task sheet.  This task sheet is of a common format in the Middle School.  Tasks will awarded a grade of A-E.  This will show parents and students how well or how little they were able to achieve in the outcomes assessed.
