
Scholarships
Wynnum High, supported by our local business community, offers twelve scholarships to Year 8 students. Four scholarships were given in each of the following categories:
- Academic Excellence
- Music Excellence
- Sporting Excellence with two specifically for Rugby League
These scholarships cover the cost of Text, Equipment and Resources Scheme, summer and winter sport fees, Instrumental Music Levy (if applicable) and any subject based excursions or special programs. Please contact the Principal for further information.
The Elizabeth Nixon Bursary – This bursary is awarded to a Year 12 student who enters a tertiary institution in the year after he/she finish Year 12. The bursary is worth $500.00 and is awarded on academic achievement, participation in school and community activities and leadership and initiative. The bursary is given in the year the student enters the tertiary institution. For more information please contact the school office.
Zillah Bunn Scholarship – It is an annual award and is awarded to a student who has overcome a number of difficulties to succeed in his/her schooling. This scholarship is announced at the Year 12 Graduation Breakfast each year and is sponsored by the Manly Hotel. The scholarship is to support the student in the pursuit of his/her chosen career.
P&C Encouragement Awards – This award is given by the P&C Association to support the above bursary and scholarship as deemed appropriate by the P&C. This award is presented at Awards Night each year.
Rugby League Scholarships – There are a number of scholarships awarded each year for the School of Excellence in Rugby League. For more information please contact the school office.
Major Douglas Griffith MBE Bursary – This bursary was first awarded in 2006 and aims to assist a student of Wynnum High to further his or her career. The bursary is given to a student in Years 9 -12 who is able to exhibit high degrees of leadership skills in the school and general community, scholastic and sporting achievement. This Bursary is $1000.00 and is awarded in October of each year. This award is presented at Awards Night each year.
ADF Leadership and Teamwork Awards – These awards are given to three students – one from Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12. They are awarded by the Australian Defence Forces. The selection criteria are based on the following: leadership, teamwork, values, problem solving, resourcefulness, communicator, cooperation and community involvement This award is presented at Awards Night each year.
