Prevocational Mathematics

Prevocational Mathematics is a senior Authority-registered subject.  It does not contribute to the Overall Position but the subject and the result will be included on the Senior Statement and the course will not contain any Vocational Education Training components.  That is, there will not be any modules or certificates offered as a part of the course at Wynnum High.

As Mathematics is an integral part of everyday life, this subject has been developed to provide students with a relevant and practical mathematics basis for life after school and further study of mathematics at T.A.F.E. colleges.  A student’s grasp of mathematical concepts, proficiency in basic skills and ability to apply these to various life-related contexts carries significant ramifications for successful performance in vocational as well as leisure pursuits.

The core units address the important mathematical areas that students need to understand in their lives. Through a study of these units and their extensions, students are offered many opportunities for developing communication skills, practising mathematical techniques (knowledge) and employing these in mathematical problem solving.
