Rugby League School of Excellence
Wynnum State High School offers students the opportunity to enrol in the School of Excellence Rugby League program that is sponsored by the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club and supported by the Wynnum Manly Old Boys of Rugby League and the Wynnum Manly Seagulls Football Club.
As part of the Rugby League School of Excellence program students are taught the latest developments in skills training and the tactics of the modern game. Related areas of strength and conditioning, diet, injury management and sports psychology are also undertaken as part of the program. The program is specialised to extend and expand the student's rugby league base.
Students in the senior program may be provided with further opportunities to attain awards for first aid, coaching, officiating and weight training and have the opportunity to commit to traineeships through Certificates in Sport. These areas of study are also seen as real opportunities to develop leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and presentational skills. A strong community link has been made with the local Primary Schools and refereeing and coaching is undertaken with these schools. Students also have the opportunity to commit to traineeships through Certificates in Sport.
Rubgy League is used as the forum to develop and extend the life experiences of our students. The development of the student's good character is emphasised.
The course in the senior school is undertaken as coursework within a Recreational Studies strand.
Senior teams compete in Broncos Challenges, Seagulls Shield and Greater Metropolitan competitions.
Students in the middle school are provided opportunities through development work in liaison with Wynnum High school coaches and the Wynnum Manly Seagulls Football Club Development. These may be delivered in conjunction with Health and Physical Education classes or as extra curricula activities. Students play in a number of organised competitions such as Broncos Challenges, Gateway District, Greater Metropolitan and Gala days.
The Rugby League Program at Wynnum High has proven to be both popular and successful in meeting the needs and interests of students. It continues to evolve to present new and challenging activities to students.
Any student enrolled at Wynnum State High School is presented with the opportunity to continue the proud tradition and play rugby league for this great school.
