
Lifesaving
Physical Recreation is a senior Authority-registered subject undertaken in Years 11 and 12 and is derived from the Study Area Specification of Physical Recreation. It operates as Strand B of this SAS. It does not contribute to an Overall Position but the subject and result will be included on the Senior Certificate.
The core course is designed to provide knowledge of diverse leisure options so students may manage their leisure time in an enjoyable and enriching manner. It also provides a useful background for those considering positions as leaders with YMCA, Guides and Scouts, outdoor and community recreation centres.

Embedded in this course is the student participation in the Youth Action Program. Participation in this program would mean that the student would train at the Royal Life Saving Society Centre to the level of Bronze Medallion and Pool Lifeguard. There would be a First Aid section to the course and students would be expected to a competent swimmer before entry to the course.
This course is a major initiative of this school in cooperation with Education Queensland. Some course costs will be incurred in obtaining certification.
PREREQUISITE SUBJECT
Students must be able to swim, be in good health and show a willingness to be involved.
Benefit for students:
Chance to complete Industry Level Pool Lifeguard, Bronze Medallion, First Aid, Resuscitation & Level 1 Coaching Principle Certification.
ASSESSMENT
Written tests
Practical skills testing.
Please note that students cannot study Rugby League and Lifesaving.
