Student Support
The school is committed to promoting a culture of caring for the individual needs of our students. The following personnel provide additional roles and support for students, parents and carers.
The Guidance Counsellor provides support person for all members of the school community: students, staff and parents and carers. The Guidance Counsellor also,
- provides counselling for students
- provides career counselling and expert advice for students and parents
- acts an advocate for students
- liaises with community agencies on student issues.

Year Coordinators are teachers who undertake the role of Year Coordinator to:
- be an advocate for students in their daily school life
- support students in all school activities
- monitor student attendance
- monitor school uniform requirements
- assist and advise students with appropriate referrals for personal issues and other matters
- act as a reference point for parents and caregivers
- manage the introduction of new students to the year level.

Sexual Harassment Referral Officers are staff members who have been trained to:
- provide initial counselling and support to students and staff who approach them with a complaint or query
- ascertain the outcome a complainant wants and give information on options available to resolve the complaint.

The Youth Health Nurse provides confidential health consultations for students, parents and staff. These include such issues as:
- General health and lifestyle issues
- Relationships
- Healthy eating and exercise
- Smoking, alcohol and other drugs
- health education services
- advising school personnel on health and community resources
- referring students to appropriate health professionals or services.

The School Chaplain provides individual and family support for the emotional and spiritual needs for all members of the school community: students, staff, parents and carers. Our School Chaplain provides a listening ear and a message of hope in a safe place where young people can gather and meet. He is able to help young people connect with other Christian and community services which can assist and support them in their local area.
Our School Chaplain also:
- welcomes new students to the school by way of an orientation program on their first day
- interacts daily with students offering them friendship, encouragment, a listening ear and spiritual guidance
- coordinates Wynnum Wipeout, a youth community project which offers holiday activities to members of our local community.

Murri Teacher Aide
The MURRI (an Aboriginal person from Queensland) Teacher Aide works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families to maximise the Murri student’s educational outcomes throughout their schooling at Wynnum State High.
